New WORX BladeRunner Crosscut Sled Ensures Precise 90º Cutting

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The new WORX® BladeRunner® Crosscut Sled makes perfectly aligned and accurate crosscuts in dimensional lumber ? time after time. This handy, optional accessory for the BladeRunner portable benchtop saw improves and simplifies a wide range of woodworking projects and home fixes.

Crosscut sleds have been around for many years to provide a stable platform for making straight, square and safe cuts on smaller work pieces. Most sleds are custom made by woodworkers for particular projects, so there are a variety of designs.

The WORX BladeRunner Crosscut Sled is engineered exclusively for the BladeRunner. The sled is constructed of durable plastic and firmly attaches without tools over the front end of the BladeRunner's tabletop. It slides on a center groove that enables the user to smoothly push the work piece through the cutting area for a perfectly aligned cut. Plenty of room is provided to place hands safely during cuts.

Secure work piece support is provided by the BladeRunner Crosscut Sled's 17 in. L x 10 ½ in. W x 1 ¼ in. H fixed fence. The fence features an integrated, easy-to-read 16-in. scale, reading 0 to 8 in. to the right and left of the blade. The sled's combination of fence support, measurement scale and center groove alignment add up to consistent 90º accuracy. The sled is especially handy for projects involving repetitive cuts.

Also, wintertime is traditionally a busy period for woodworking enthusiasts and home improvers, alike, to bring projects indoors. So it's an ideal time to pull out the BladeRunner, along with its crosscut sled accessory and project plans.

The BladeRunner is no ordinary table saw. Besides fast and accurate rip cuts and crosscuts, this lightweight, portable benchtop saw also makes scroll, inside and miter cuts using standard, 4-in., T-shank jigsaw blades. Readily available in home centers and hardware stores, these blades come in a variety of profiles to cut wood, PVC, plastic, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, as well as ceramic tile. Unlike conventional saws, BladeRunner enables do-it-yourselfers to tackle a wide range of projects and materials by simply changing blades.

BladeRunner weighs only 14.7 lbs. and is 6 ¾ inches high, which is a comfortable work height when mounted to a workbench. The compact saw has a small footprint of 17 in. wide by 15 ¾ in. deep. It's ideal for home workshops, or easily carried right to the jobsite.

Winter woodworking projects, such as cutting boards, book racks, tabletops, keepsake boxes, bookcases, toolboxes and storage cabinets are well within the capabilities of BladeRunner and its crosscut sled accessory. Looking toward summer, there are projects such as a bird feeders and bird houses, trellises, potting tables, bike stands and Adirondack chairs. Numerous project plans are offered online, as well as by woodworking enthusiast and home improvement publications.

Ease of changing blades is one of BladeRunner's key advantages. There's no need for wrenches; just slide the blade release lever on the left of the tabletop to seat or release the blade. Once the blade is in position, guide rollers ensure straight cuts.

BladeRunner's adjustable hold-down arm is designed to match the thickness of the work piece and incorporates a splitter to help keep straight cuts on track. It holds the work piece against the table to minimize vibration, and flips out of the way when making interior cuts.

BladeRunner's fence has two adjustment knobs to align work pieces for straight and accurate rip cutting. Fence channels at both the front and rear of the tabletop have measurement scales for precise alignment. A miter gauge also is provided for making angle cuts.

The versatile benchtop saw is powered by a 5.5-amp motor that delivers 3,000 strokes per minute. Its cutting capacity is 1 ½ inch in wood, 1 ¼ inch in PVC, 3/8 inch in aluminum and ceramic tile, and 1/8 inch in mild steel. The blade stroke is 3/4 inches.

BladeRunner's durable base is impact resistant and supported by four, non-marring rubber feet. Built-in storage is provided for the fence and miter gauge.

Other features include an on/off paddle switch with safety key to prevent unauthorized use, 6-foot power cord and built-in carrying handle. The BladeRunner is covered by the WORX three-year warranty.

The WORX BladeRunner (WX572L, $99.99) and WORX BladeRunner Crosscut Sled (WA0134, $24.99) are available at worx.com.
