DETROIT, Jan. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- DTE Energy is ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Business Gas Service in the Midwest," according to J.D. The award is DTE's second for business customer satisfaction for 2017, as J.D. Power also recognized DTE as highest in customer satisfaction with business electric service in the Midwest last month. This marks the first time in company history that DTE has ranked highest overall with both electric and gas customers.

"We made significant efforts to provide best-in-class service to our customers in 2017, and these awards recognize our hard work," said Jerry Norcia, DTE president and chief operating officer. "From the economic development work we did across the state, to infrastructure investments for gas and electric reliability and a drop in the price of gas, these actions and many more, go a long way toward keeping our customers satisfied at the more than 228,000 business locations we serve."

The study measures business customer satisfaction with gas utility companies by examining six factors: customer service; safety and reliability; corporate citizenship; billing and payment; price; and communications.

DTE has enhanced its focus on business customers in several ways. The company maintains a business center for small- to medium-sized commercial customers with a dedicated phone number that connects callers directly with DTE representatives who are knowledgeable about the company's business-focused services and offerings. Plus, anytime day or night, business customers can manage their accounts online with DTE's enhanced business web experience. In 2017, the company also conducted about 1,900 Business Energy Consultations to help business customers save money and energy.

DTE is investing in and accelerating a gas main renewal program that is replacing older steel lines with state-of-the-art flexible polyethylene lines that resist corrosion and reduce the potential for leaks. These investments translate to new jobs and contracts with local firms and suppliers. This year alone, DTE spent about $1.4 billion with Michigan-based businesses.

DTE employees also are making a significant impact in the communities where they live and serve. Over the course of the year, they volunteered more than 40,000 hours at 200 area nonprofit organizations.
