Table Games Drives Increase in Overall PA Casino Gaming Revenue in 2017

HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported today that the gross total gaming revenue combining slot machines and table games rose slightly and once again exceeded $3.2 billion in calendar year 2017.

While slot machine revenue was slightly down in 2017 from 2016, the Board reported that table games revenue reached a record high this past year. That amount helped propel overall gaming revenue to the highest calendar year figure since legalized casino gaming began in Pennsylvania, $3,226,910,816.  It also marked the seventh straight calendar year in which the total casino revenue figure topped $3 billion.

Tax revenue in 2017 from the combined play of slot machines and table games was $1,332,202,319*.

The following chart tracks slot machine and table games gross revenue since the first slots-only casino opened in November 2006.  Table games were added to Pennsylvania casinos in July 2010.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board:

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state's casino industry, along with oversight of new gaming initiatives to the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act recently approved through the signing of Act 42 of 2017.

The Commonwealth's casino industry currently consists of 10 stand-alone and racetrack casinos in operation, along with the two smaller resort casinos.  These facilities collectively employ 18,000 people and annually generate approximately $1.4 billion in tax revenue from slot machine and table games play. The largest portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners.

Additional information about both the PGCB's gaming regulatory efforts and Pennsylvania's gaming industry can be found at www.gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov. You can also follow the agency on Twitter by choosing @PAGamingControl.
