BNBuilders Awarded Borrego Springs, CA Branch Library, Park & Sheriff's Office

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BNBuilders, in partnership with Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects (RNT), is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the new Borrego Springs Branch Library, Park, and Sheriff's Office.  The $11.5 million design-build project is designed to celebrate the social and cultural history of the Borrego Springs community and the unique environment of this desert setting. 

The new project uses Borrego Springs' status as a Dark Sky Community as inspiration for the design.  Dark Sky Communities adopt outdoor lighting ordinances and offer education to promote and preserve the night skies for future generations.  Design elements and artful educational displays incorporate constellation mapping, references to local history, and provide a place for imagination.  Perhaps most profound is the library's floating "Ramada" roof which extends beyond the building envelope.  It will create shade and an ethereal quality of hovering above the desert floor.  The library is designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification and be Zero Net Energy.

Playing off the celestial skies was tremendous inspiration for the entire library and park site. The Galaxy Court, Cosmos Way and Polaris Plaza educate with concrete markers indicating the planets' relationships to earth and sun. Everything about the site has been thought through, with respect to recreation, dark skies astronomy, discovery, and places for imagination."
