Today Marks Boys Town's 100th Birthday

BOYS TOWN, Neb., Dec. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Boys Town seals a time capsule to be opened 100 years from now. Just one of the ways it's marking a century of caring for children and families across the country. Letters, artwork, centennial commemorative objects, a yearbook and other items are being added to the time capsule and stored in the Flanagan House to give future Boys Town youth and staff a glimpse into history.

"This is an exciting day," said Father Steven Boes, Boys Town National Executive Director and President. "Boys Town has made a difference in the lives of thousands of kids throughout the past 100 years, and I know Boys Town will continue to serve kids and families in need throughout the next 100 years."

The time capsule event has been one of many centennial celebrations throughout the past year for Boys Town. Started in Omaha in 1917 by Father Edward Flanagan as an orphanage for troubled boys, the nonprofit has turned into a national organization with sites around the country and now serves girls and families as well.

In addition to the time capsule event, the organization unveiled a new statue to stand at the entrance of the Omaha campus. The US Mint also released a Boys Town Commemorative Coin in celebration of the impressive milestone.
