This winter... Put on your tuque and mittens and join the action at the Old Port of Montréal
MONTRÉAL, Dec. 8, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - For over a century, the Old Port has been a place where Montrealers gather in winter. This year will be no exception, with the Natrel Skating Rink, the Montréal Observation Wheel, Igloofest and the New Year's celebrations... so many reasons to enjoy winter on the banks of the St. Lawrence!
The Natrel Skating Rink at the Old Port: With its mirror-smooth, refrigerated surface and breathtaking views of Montréal, the Natrel Rink will welcome skaters as early as December 9. Festive programming will warm the hearts and toes of evening visitors, and on December 16, 23 and 30 and January 6, Natrel Fire on Ice will return with a theme for young and old alike: animated films. During the week, there will be the popular theme nights, which were a big hit last year:
- TUESDAYS - WORKOUT ON ICE
Learn or perfect basic skating techniques and get your heart pumping with the help of professional trainers. The December 12 launch party will feature three Montréal Canadiens alumni: Steve Bégin, Patrice Brisebois and Mathieu Dandenault.
- WEDNESDAYS - HOT RYTHMS ON ICE
Skate to the steamy Latin rhythms of our guest DJs. For the December 13 launch party, there will be salsa with dancers on and off the ice, in collaboration with Salsafolie.
- THURSDAYS - DJ ON ICE
Definitely the most popular evenings at the ice rink. Sparks fly on ice to the smokin' sounds of our guest DJs. At the launch party on December 14, the mix master will be DJ Abeille.
Patin Patin will offer skate rentals as well as lessons for those who want to gain more confidence on the ice.
Canada's biggest New Year's celebration
Join this spectacular party and end your year with an exclamation point. Starting at 11:45 pm., spectators at the Clock Tower Pier will witness a magical countdown with a special illumination of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. At the Jacques-Cartier Pier, the New Year's Party will feature an array of artists including Mes Aïeux, Daniel Bélanger, Vincent Vallières, Pierre Kwenders, Laurence Nerbonne, Les Deuxluxes and DJ KXO.
Igloofest: a very cool festival
For its 12th edition, Igloofest will offer a three-week program for electronic music fans, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, featuring a constellation of stars, both local (Misstress Barbara, and Kaytranada) and international (Bonobo, Sasha & John Digweed, and Petit Biscuit).
High-flying winter activities
The Montréal Wheel will welcome visitors all winter long with its heated cabins and extraordinary views of Montréal and the St. Lawrence River. In addition, for the second year in a row, MTL Zipline will be open to thrill seekers over the holidays and on weekends.
Port Symphony
On February 25, lend your ears to the 24th edition of the Port Symphony. At this unique outdoor concert, the sounds of trains and boats moored in Montréal for the winter are combined to create an unusual original work. Inspired by the exhibition Passion: Hockey at the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, the composer will try to capture the traditions and excitement surrounding our national sport.
