Coral Ridge Yacht Club Celebrates 70th Anniversary with City Proclamation & Gala
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Coral Ridge Yacht Club celebrated its 70th Anniversary and Past Commodores Ball on November 11, 2017 in grand style with a show stopping red carpet gala. The office of the Mayor of the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida made the day official by proclaiming November 11, 2017 as Coral Ridge Yacht Club 70th Anniversary Day and the proclamation was signed by Fort Lauderdale's Mayor John P. "Jack" Seiler and presented by Vice Mayor Bruce Roberts.
Coral Ridge Yacht Club was formerly chartered on October 18, 1947 and the clubhouse was opened to its members on October 21st, 1949 with a ground-breaking ceremony. The Clubhouse was designed by postmodern architect Charles F. McKirahan, A.I.A. and the interior was designed by Wayne Davidson. Dedication services of the finished clubhouse were held on December 28, 1959 with the formal opening held on New Year's Eve.
Coral Ridge Yacht Club was the first East Coast club to be admitted to the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs in 1968 and among those distinguished individuals to serve as Commodore of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club have been prominent doctors, dentists, attorneys, engineers and bankers; and, another who served in important positions, including Treasure, Secretary, Governor and Fleet Captain, was Francis J. Schuster, over his 38 years of membership, who, organized and led the very first annual Winterfest Boat Parade in 1971.
