Families in the Rupert sector of the municipality of La Pêche will benefit from upgraded community spaces that support a better quality of life

Government of Canada provides $5,500 in funding to upgrade the community skating rink

LA PÊCHE, QC, Nov. 20, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Families in the Rupert sector of the municipality of La Pêche will benefit from an upgraded ice rink where the young and not-so-young can go skating, thanks to $5,500 in funding from the Government of Canada.

The funding was announced today by William Amos, MP for Pontiac, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.

Specifically, the announced funding was used to replace the boards around the rink, making the recreational infrastructure safer for all users.

This investment was made through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300M fund set up to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary by investing in community spaces that bring Canadians together.

Quotes

"This investment targets a community building project to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary. And what better way to mark this milestone than by celebrating the places that bring us together?the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That's how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people hail from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces."

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED

"I am delighted with CED's funding for the Rupert Youth Welfare Association, whose contribution to the community's vitality is undeniable. The renovations mean that everyone can enjoy a safe skating rink. I would like to congratulate Myles Mahon and his entire team of volunteers for their incredible work."

William Amos, MP for Pontiac
