Media Advisory - Media Accreditation and Scheduling of Community Hearings in Saskatoon, SK


VANCOUVER, Nov. 19, 2017 /CNW/ - The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Women and Girls will hold Community Hearings at the Sheraton Cavalier Saskatoon Hotel in Saskatoon, SK from November 21-23, 2017.

National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (CNW Group/Commission of Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Girls)

Chief Commissioner Marion Buller and Commissioners Michèle Audette and Brian Eyolfson will hear from approximately 40 witnesses through public and private hearings, sharing circle testimonies and artistic expression panels. There will also be statement gatherers on-site that can accommodate up to another 40 walk-ins who may wish to register. Scheduling runs from 10 am through 5 pm CT daily.

A mandatory technical briefing will take place on Monday, November 20 @ 2:00 PM for media that would like to report on-site during the three day event.

The three day schedule is full in Saskatoon; a press conference WILL NOT be held during the week. However, there will be opportunity throughout the week for journalists to speak with Commissioners, including:

The entire process will be guided by traditional ceremonies of the Treaty Six Territory. There will be a Sacred Fire at the Kiwanis Park North (across from the hotel) that will be kept burning through the entire event. All Ceremonies are open to the public, but out of respect for local protocols no photos or video will be tolerated.
