MONTREAL, Nov. 15, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, 500 company employees went head to head with professional athletes to climb Place Ville Marie, one of Montreal's tallest skyscrapers. These athletes took part in the 20th RBC Challenge for Centraide, a relay race to beat the record of 2 minutes 38 seconds up the building's 1,013 steps. The event raised a total of $310,000?$60,000 more than last year?to help improve the quality of life of individuals and families in need.

RBC contributes to community wealth by supporting a wide diversity of community initiatives through donations, community investment, sponsorships and employee volunteer work. In 2016, RBC gave over $82 million in donations to different causes around the world.

Centraide of Greater Montreal covers Laval, Montreal and the South Shore. About 57,000 volunteers are involved with the agencies that it supports, and 22,000 volunteers work on its annual campaign. Centraide is supported by private, public and parapublic corporations and institutions as well as large trade unions that hold 1,600 workplace campaigns every year. The money raised is invested locally to break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion. Quebec has 18 Centraides that support 1,500 community agencies and projects that offer help and comfort to 1.3 million vulnerable people.
