Discovery Channel Documentary film features World Energy in the story of Biodiesel's emergence as America's leading advanced biofuel Television

BOSTON, Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ - Over a two year period Discovery captured the largely overlooked rise of the biodiesel industry in America in a film titled HOT GREASE.   World Energy, headquartered in Boston with operations throughout the country, is featured throughout the film.

WHO: World Energy's CEO, Gene Gebolys, shares a behind the scenes look at the decades long struggle of renewable fuels like biodiesel to increasingly participate alongside fossil fuels to fill the nation's fuel tank.  Senators Al Franken and Chuck Grassley join former Senator Byron Dorgan, Congresswoman Kristi Noem and cast of industry players at all levels to chronicle the bi-partisan and multifaceted push to build America's biodiesel and renewable fuels industry.

WHAT: HOT GREASE is the story of the upstart renewable fuel making its way in the fossil fuel dominated world.  It captures the work that has gone into creating the industry and the critical role the current administration plays in continuing to foster its growth.  Job growth in the energy sector is coming from Renewables across the spectrum. It's been 40 years since a new oil refinery has been built in the United States," Gebolys said. "We have built over 100 bio refineries in the past 15 years.  This where the job growth is.  This where responsible environmental stewardship is. Renewables like biodiesel are where this country needs to go."

The fast emerging biodiesel industry is already the second largest renewable fuel by volume in the United States. Biomass based diesel now contributes nearly 3 billion gallons annually to the American fuel tank and nearly 10 billion gallons worldwide. Made from a variety of different feedstocks such as used cooking oils, fats from the meat packing industries and seed oils, biodiesel is blended with petroleum diesel to power primarily the commercial and industrial side of transportation.  The documentary showcases how the biodiesel industry is turning kitchen grease into a renewable energy source. Gebolys joins innovators, entrepreneurs, grease collectors and supporters like Senator Al Franken (D-MN) and Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) in discussing the industry's path forward, the effects of government policies and what drives America to support a new fuel such as biodiesel.

WHEN: The Discovery Impact documentary HOT GREASE debuts Thursday November 16 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery following its premiere at the prestigious DOC NYC festival. The film will be available on Discovery Go on November 17.
