Sport of Bowling Supports Hospitalized Veterans: $50 Million Raised to Date

WASHINGTON, Nov. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Marking the 75th anniversary of a unique charity founded by the sport of bowling, the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) (www.BowlforVeterans.org) raised more than one million dollars this year to provide recreational and therapeutic programs and services to America's hospitalized inpatient and outpatient veterans. This gift was recognized today by Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin during a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.  Since its inception, BVL has raised in excess of $50 million to support the mission to brighten veterans' lives.

"We are so appreciative that our friends at BVL have remained committed to America's veterans," noted Shulkin.  "Thank you all so very much."

BVL Executive Director Mary Harrar notes, "In big cities and small towns throughout the nation our bowling family stands together to help meet our goal: Providing veterans with sports and arts programs that encourage healthy and active lifestyles, boost spirits, and reduce feelings of isolation and stress."

Thanks to BVL, veterans in care at VA facilities across the country take part in sports and arts programs, enjoy a variety of activities from nature walks to gardening and pet therapy, and have opportunities to attend cultural events.

BVL is a national 501 (c) (3) charity which was founded in 1942 by representatives of all elements of the sport of bowling ? league bowlers, bowling center operators, and equipment manufacturers and suppliers.  BVL is consistently acknowledged for efficient and effective programming delivered with extremely low overhead.  BVL has been recognized as one of "America's Best Charities," earned a "Top Rated" Nonprofit distinction, and accepted into the Combined Federal Campaign (#93325).   For more information, visit www.BowlforVeterans.org
