MIT Sloan engages Matt Zames, former Chief Operating Officer of JPMorgan Chase & Co. and MIT alum, as an Executive in Residence at the school

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Matt Zames?the highly regarded finance executive who's had a guiding hand in a number of key global financial events over the past quarter century?is returning to his alma mater, MIT, as an Executive in Residence at the school.

MIT Sloan School of Management

"Matt has been at the forefront of the financial services industry throughout his professional career," says Paul Asquith, the Gordon Y Billard Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management, and an early mentor to Zames. "He has an incredible depth of experience and a rich grasp of the financial services sector. I am thrilled to welcome him back to the MIT community."

Most recently, Zames served as Chief Operating Officer of JPMorgan Chase & Co. In that role, his responsibilities included the firm's Chief Investment Office, the Oversight and Control Group, Treasury & Funding, Mortgage Banking Capital Markets, One Equity Partners, Corporate Strategy, Regulatory Affairs, Global Technology and Operations, Real Estate, Procurement, Security & Safety, General Services, and Military & Veteran Affairs.

He was co-COO from July 2012 until April 2013 when he assumed the full COO position. Previously, he was Chief Investment Officer of JPMorgan Chase.

Prior to joining the corporate sector, he held a series of senior roles in the firm's Investment Bank. He was co-head of Global Fixed Income for J.P. Morgan's Investment Bank and head of Chase's Mortgage Banking Capital Markets. Before that, he managed several leading Markets businesses, including Rates, Foreign Exchange, Public Finance, Securitized Products Group, and the Tax Exempt Capital Markets business.

"The day after Matt stepped down in June, I spoke to him and encouraged him to come to MIT," says Asquith. "I knew that our faculty and students would benefit from his experience and firsthand knowledge, and I thought he might appreciate some time to reflect and recharge and think about his next move."

"When Paul proposed I return to MIT, I thought it was an excellent idea," says Zames. "I credit a lot of my success in life with my education and experiences at the school. The opportunity to give back to MIT is incredibly appealing to me."

Zames has already engaged in lively exchanges with faculty members on a variety of financial topics. He will return to Cambridge next month to hold roundtable discussions with students. "My goal is help push people to understand the practical aspects of what they are working on and learning about," he says. "It's been great fun."

Zames is a former member and chairman of the U.S. Treasury Department's Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee. He is also a former member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Treasury Market Practices Group. Additionally, he is a member of the Economic Club of New York and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is on the MIT Sloan Finance Group Advisory Board. He is also on the board of directors of numerous groups including: Business Executives for National Security, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. He is also the former co-chairman of the board of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University.
