GEEP collaborates with Canada's Big Five banks to host a personal household e-waste recycling event in the GTA from October 17th - 19th

TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2017 /CNW/ - In support of Waste Reduction Week, GEEP (Global Electric Electronic Processing) is pleased to work together with the five major Canadian banks (BMO, CIBC, RBC, Scotiabank and TD) to build awareness and educate consumers and companies alike about the environmental impacts of electronic waste also referred to as e-waste.

The e-waste recycling event, which will run daily from 7:30AM to 3:30PM, October 17^th to 19^th, provides a great opportunity for people working in the GTA to bring in their personal electronic waste items from home for responsible disposal.  There will be three e-waste collection locations: the main lobby of Commerce Court East (21 Melinda St., Toronto), south tower lobby of Royal Bank Plaza (200 Bay St., Toronto), and the Atrium of 100 Consilium Place, Scarborough.  E-waste items such as cell phones, computer components (hard drives, monitors, scanners, keyboards, printers, etc.), and home electronics (TVs, radios, CD and DVD players, etc.) are all acceptable materials for electronic recycling.  For a full list of acceptable e-waste items for collection, please visit: Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) ? Recycling e-waste responsibly plays an important role in diverting waste from landfills, conserving natural resources, and ensuring environmental sustainability.  According to recent forecasts, the amount of worldwide e-waste generation is expected to reach 49.8 million tons in 2018 with an annual 4-5 percent growth.

"We all have old or unused electronic items sitting at home collecting dust.  E-waste contains toxic materials like lead, cadmium and mercury, and if disposed of in landfills can contaminate soil, water and air.  Why not do something good for the environment ? and your closet ? and recycle them responsibly with GEEP," said Mike Morgan, General Manager of GEEP Toronto.

BMO, CIBC, RBC, Scotiabank and TD are collaborating with GEEP to ensure that all items collected at the event are recycled responsibly.  GEEP's state-of-the-art recycling facilities transform e-waste into valuable commodities by running it through refining equipment that breaks down and separates metals, plastics, and other materials. GEEP's "no export" policy ensures that items are recycled locally and avoids any e-waste being shipped overseas where environment and health and safety standards may be limited. 

Waste Reduction Week in Canada, which runs from October 16^th to 22^nd, is a national environmental campaign that builds awareness around responsible waste management.
