American Osteopathic Association Taps Veteran Attorney to Lead Accreditation of Osteopathic Medical Schools


CHICAGO, Oct. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Osteopathic Association today named Brian G. Kim, JD, vice president of accreditation and secretary of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).

AOA is the professional membership organization for the nation's more than 129,000 osteopathic physicians (DOs) and osteopathic medical students. COCA accredits 34 osteopathic medical schools operating in 49 sites and is the sole accrediting body for pre-doctoral osteopathic medical education.

Prior to this position, Kim served as associate general counsel of the AOA, providing legal counsel to COCA on accreditation issues and decisions, as well as advising AOA on advocacy matters, case analysis and proposed legislation.  

A graduate of Boston College Law School, Kim has 32 years of combined experience as a jurist and attorney. He was the first Asian American judge in Montgomery County, Maryland, serving 10 years on the bench with the District Court of Maryland. During his career, he held multiple positions with the District of Columbia, State of Maryland and Montgomery County, Maryland.

Kim is a former adjunct professor of law at the University of Baltimore, University of Maryland and George Mason University.
