North Park University Athletic Training Department to Hold "Mock" Marathon on Campus Thursday to Prepare for Treating Runners at Chicago Marathon

CHICAGO, Oct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dozens of North Park University students and staff will stage a mock marathon on campus Thursday, complete with actors made up to look injured, in preparation for their volunteer work at this weekend's 40th annual Chicago Marathon.

North Park University is an urban, intercultural, and Christian university located in Chicago. Visit northpark.edu/about.

The event, to be held near the Compass in the center of campus, will allow students to experience first-hand the fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment of the marathon, which expects more than 40,000 runners this year.

For North Park's marathon simulation, "Runners" will be scattered across campus. Professional makeup artists will make them look like they're suffering everything from broken bones and cuts to heart attacks. Students will then have to work quickly to diagnose and treat the injured.

North Park has been a leader in Marathon medical care for the past 15 years.

"The Chicago Marathon is one of the premier sporting events in the world," says Andrew Lundgren, NPU's director of Athletic Training and the marathon's Medical Response Manager. "We talk about how Chicago is our classroom, this is one example of an outstanding opportunity for our students to learn."

The mock marathon will take place from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5.
