Montréal to host the 2023 World Irish Dancing Championships

MONTRÉAL, Oct. 4, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Thanks to the leadership of Tourisme Montréal and the Palais des congrès de Montréal, the city will host the World Irish Dancing Championships from April 2 to 9, 2023. Some 6,000 participants will attend the competition, which is being organized by An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (The Irish Dancing Commission), and use 18,000 room nights in local accommodations during their stay in Montréal.

Tourisme Montréal welcomes this news, as it confirms the city's ability to attract world-class events. The championships will enhance the city's reputation on the international stage and strengthen its position as a destination for major events.

"The decision to hold the World Irish Dancing Championships in Montréal underscores our city's ability to successfully host this type of participative cultural event, especially since we already welcomed these championships in 2015. Montréal has earned a reputation for its outstanding ability to organize major international competitions. We are extremely proud that Montréal was selected and we will work hard with our partners to ensure a quality event," said Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.

"Our teams work together wholeheartedly so that every event surpasses expectations. Montréal is home to the very best and we are proud of the opportunity to once again contribute to the success of the World Irish Dancing Championships, which will enjoy a venue where participants will be able to ply their art in an environment tailor-made for their needs," mentioned Raymond Larivée, President and CEO of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.
