Firefly Is Making After Hours Cycling Safe Again

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Having launched its customizable illumination solution this January at CES® in Las Vegas, the award winning Firefly by MASTM technology was on display at Interbike International Bicycle Expo, Las Vegas on September 20-22, 2017. Cycling enthusiasts and businesses got to experience illuminated cycling first hand.

Illuminated Night Cycling

Whether you are a commuter cyclist or an avid cyclist, you want to mitigate the risks that come with cycling at night. Limited visibility is a huge factor in serious bicycle accidents. Visibility is further reduced by the glare from lights of oncoming vehicles. While not all bike accidents can be prevented, increasing your visibility can greatly reduce your chances of being hit. Unfortunately, current solutions such as reflectors rely on external light sources, so a driver may not see a reflector on a jacket in time in low light conditions.

To improve the safety of after hour cycling, MAS Holdings in collaboration with Flex, the Sketch-to-Scaletm solutions provider that designs and builds Intelligent Products for a Connected Worldtm has introduced an illumination technology that makes your cycling gear more functional, smart and visible.  Firefly by MASTM is the only next-to-skin washable illumination solution that is both lightweight and flexible to be seamlessly embedded into any gear.  Optimized for low light or night conditions, Firefly stays lit for four hours, activates easily with a button and conveniently recharges with a USB.

This technology can be integrated in the fabric in 2 formats - using LED lights that offer point source lighting and Light Guides that offer continuous lighting. Both can be enabled to flash in a pattern on demand to highlight a moving person, thus overcoming the limitations of current lighting solutions ? reflectors.

One in 20 cyclists are injured every year. Firefly is trying to do its part to decrease the odds of cycle enthusiasts becoming a statistic.
