London Vote to Revoke Uber License Commended by The National Limousine Association

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Limousine Association (http://limo.org) praises Transport for London's (TfL) revocation of Uber's license as they have declared that the organization is not "fit & proper" due to their numerous misdeeds. In the open letter below, on behalf of the membership of the National Limousine Association, NLA President Gary Buffo commends TfL's decision to stand firm against Uber, demanding that they play by the rules.

Dear TfL Commissioner Mike Brown,

My name is Gary Buffo and I am the President of The National Limousine Association (NLA). The NLA, founded in 1985, is an organization comprised of ground transportation providers across the globe, committed to upholding the integrity of our industry. We insist that all transportation providers properly screen all drivers, perform comprehensive background checks, comply with all training standards, undergo routine drug screening, and comply with all employment regulations wherever they may operate. To that end, we launched the Ride Responsibly (www.rideresponsibly.org) initiative to educate the public about the risks associated with utilizing ride-hailing services. Recently, Ride Responsibly has partnered with Jobs with Justice to address the myriad labor issues associated with ride-hailing, and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center to help keep people safe.

The National Limousine Association would like to applaud the TfL's decision not to renew Uber's license to operate in London. Increasingly, cities around the world are beginning to recognize and take action against the vast injustices committed by Uber and other ride-hailing services. While technology and innovation are crucial, human rights and safety can never be sacrificed simply for convenience. It is important to note that taxis and limousines across the world have adopted much of this same technology, and have managed to do so while still abiding by the rules.

Hopefully, this decision will encourage other cities and countries to begin questioning the safety, accountability, business practices and overall value that these services bring. The NLA stands behind its operators around the globe and pledges to fully support the TfL, Mayor Sadiq Khan, and any leaders who choose to make the right decision for their citizens. The safety and security of both passengers and drivers have been in grave risk for far too long.

Thank you,

Gary Buffo
President
National Limousine Association
