Universal Technical Institute Launches Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining Technology Program

MOORESVILLE, N.C., Aug. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- This week Universal Technical Institute's NASCAR Technical Institute campus welcomed the inaugural class of its Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining Technology Program

The program is aligned with NASCAR Technical Institute's expertise in training technicians for careers in the racing industry, and allows the campus to grow its student population and expand its educational offerings. During the 12-course, 36-week program, developed in partnership with industry leader Roush Yates Engines, students will receive exclusive hands-on training while working on technologies in the campus's state-of-the-industry CNC lab.

"We are constantly looking for ways to further the hands-on training and educational opportunities we are able to offer our students," said Jennifer Bergeron, Campus President at NASCAR Technical Institute. "The addition of the CNC Machining Technology Program will provide students with the skills to help fill the strong demand for CNC technicians in multiple industries, not just in this region, but nationwide."

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of computer-controlled machine tool operators in the United States is projected to grow 17.5 percent from 2014 to 2024. In Mooresville, there is strong demand for CNC technicians in the region's leading industries, including racing, aviation and motorsports. The CNC Machining Technology Program will provide students with the knowledge and skills to produce a wide range of precision parts, including high-performance engines, industrial applications and medical equipment, so they are trained for a career in a variety of industries following graduation.

"As we continue to focus on innovation and performance improvement in the motorsports industry, CNC technicians play a vital role in our success," said Doug Yates, CEO, Roush Yates Engines. "We look forward to a continued partnership with Universal Technical Institute and to hiring graduates from the new CNC Machining Technology program."

The program's curriculum is aligned with standards established by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). For more information on the program, please visit:  https://www.uti.edu/programs/cnc-machining.
