Canadian première: Formula E comes to Montreal - CAA-Quebec supports the electrification of transportation

MONTREAL, July 27, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Electric vehicles have made tremendous strides in the last few years. The general public will have a chance to see this for themselves on July 29 and 30 at the country's first 100% electric race, a very special event presented by Hydro-Québec. This is a unique opportunity to become acquainted with electric cars and even to test drive them for free.

"Major events like this are needed to show very clearly just how quickly and effectively electric cars have been advancing and just how impressive they are," says Richard Lachance, President and CEO of CAA-Quebec. "More than anything else, this international race represents the very idea of a future form of mobility. We urge our members to show up in large numbers for this weekend of activities, where they will also be entitled to an exclusive discount."

Try something electric
The Montréal ePrix by Hydro-Québec is a showcase for everything involving smart mobility and electrical innovation. People can come to admire and even to experiment! Test drives of electric vehicles, presented by the Circuit électrique, are being organized by evenko and by Montréal c'est électrique in collaboration with Gouvernement du Québec, CAA-Québec, the Innovative Vehicle Institute, the Association des véhicules électriques du Québec and several carmakers, including Porsche, BMW, Ford, Chevrolet, Kia et Nissan. CAA-Quebec's Automotive Advisory Services team will be on hand to guide participants and inform them of the potential of these cars. Anyone interested can sign up free of charge for road tests. Rethinking tomorrow with Smart Cities
Sustainable mobility is not just a theoretical concept for scholars, dreamers and ecologists. It encompasses the search for solutions to problems affecting everyone, such as traffic congestion, an obvious concern with remedies that are rather less obvious. These remedies will be the topic of the Smart Cities forum, set for July 28 alongside the race under the aegis of the Fédération internationale de l'automobile (FIA).

After Japan, France and the United States, it's Montreal's turn!
This race and conference, both of international scope and both organized by the FIA, are part of a series that has spanned the globe, including events in Japan, France, Mexico and the United States. It is finally landing in Canada, more specifically in downtown Montreal. "This is further evidence that Quebec is moving forward and has established its credibility in sustainable development," Mr. Lachance adds.

CAA-Quebec salutes the City of Montreal for its efforts and thanks it for continuing to prioritize the electrification of transportation and sustainable mobility, among others by creating the organization Montréal c'est électrique. CAA-Quebec also emphasizes Hydro-Québec's commitment to making Formula E a success.
