Quotes
"The peace of mind that comes with having a secure and stable home is invaluable. This is why our Government is pleased to have been involved in the creation of these 24 new units which provide housing that is both affordable and safe to those who need it most. Ten of the units are adapted to accommodate people with limited mobility. This is good news for the residents of Montmagny as it is a tangible step towards helping the people of the community and the local economy." - The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
"Through its financial support to this project, the Government of Quebec is locally helping people with mobility issues. I applaud this admirable initiative by the Corporation d'habitation du Littoral and its partners. It was their determination that allowed us to celebrate today the official opening of these new housing units and improve the living conditions of these tenants." - Norbert Morin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy and Member of the National Assembly for Côte-du-Sud
"It is with great pride that I am officially opening today these new affordable units because, for me, a city like ours has a social responsibility to its more vulnerable citizens. It was therefore quite natural for the City of Montmagny to partner in this great project, which, I am sure, will help improve the living conditions of lower-income households and people with reduced mobility in our area." - Jean-Guy Desrosiers, Mayor of Montmagny
Highlights
Through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), the governments of Canada and Quebec provided more than $1.5 million for the construction of this housing project, under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement (IAH 2014-2019).
The City of Montmagny contributed nearly $525,000 for the development of this project.
Close to $50,000 was granted by the Bureau de l'efficacité et de l'innovation énergétiques of the Ministère de l'Énergie et des Ressources naturelles to ensure that the building would meet Novoclimat certification standards.
More than $292,000 in additional financial assistance over five years, assumed by the SHQ (90%) and the City of Montmagny (10%), enables the tenants of 17 of the 24 units to benefit from the Rent Supplement program, ensuring that they will not pay more than 25% of their income on housing.
The Corporation d'habitation du Littoral is a non-profit housing corporation that took on the mission of facilitating the social and community integration of people with adjustment difficulties by providing them with adapted housing units, safe recreational areas and a quality living environment.
