EcoHealth Alliance Will Honor L'Oréal At Annual Spring Benefit

NEW YORK, April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- EcoHealth Alliance, a nonprofit that focuses on local conservation and global health issues, announced today that it will honor L'Oréal at the organization's upcoming annual benefit ? "Investigate. Educate. Eradicate. ? an Evening to Benefit EcoHealth Alliance" ? on April 27, 2017. EcoHealth Alliance commends the leadership L'Oréal has shown in addressing sustainability and environmental issues. The annual fundraising event will be held at Guastavino's, located at 409 East 59th Street in New York City. The event will begin at 6:30pm with a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by an award ceremony, seated dinner, and live auction. Proceeds from the benefit will support EcoHealth Alliance's global public health and local conservation programs around the world. "The respect and protection of biodiversity is one of the guiding principles of our strategy 'Sharing Beauty With All,' and it shepherds our policies on Zero Deforestation and the sustainable sourcing of our ingredients. We're honored to accept this award from EcoHealth Alliance whose valuable work supports the need to protect ecosystems," said Alexandra Palt, Chief Sustainability Officer at L'Oréal.

L'Oréal has devoted itself to beauty for over 100 years. With its unique international portfolio of 34 diverse and complementary brands, L'Oréal is present across all distribution networks: mass market, department stores, pharmacies and drugstores, hair salons, travel retail, branded retail and e-commerce.

As the world's leading beauty company, L'Oréal is committed to sustainable beauty. L'Oréal's sustainability commitment for 2020 "Sharing Beauty With All" sets out ambitious sustainable development objectives across the Group's value chain.  L'Oréal reduced its CO2 emissions in 2016 by 67% in absolute terms from a 2005 baseline while the Group's production volume rose by 29%. L'Oréal is one of only two companies in the world to have achieved the best score, an 'A', in each of all categories: actions against climate change, sustainable water management and actions against deforestation. "We are thrilled to honor L'Oréal this year for its sustainability commitment and focus on creating positive environmental and social impacts," said Dr. Peter Daszak, President of EcoHealth Alliance.

As a leading cause of human fatalities worldwide, infectious diseases lead to the deaths of 14 million people per year. Additionally, over three-quarters of emerging infectious diseases are a result of viruses that originate in wild or domestic animals that can spillover to people. EcoHealth Alliance scientists and our partners are actively working in 30+ countries to identify potential infectious disease threats through wildlife field research and cooperation with local communities. "Human-induced changes to the planet including deforestation, unsustainable agricultural production and global wildlife trade create negative impacts for both wildlife and human health. Our innovative science and research would not be possible without the generous contributions and support of individual donors, government agencies, and leading companies like L'Oréal," said Dr. Daszak.

About EcoHealth Alliance
Building on over 45 years of groundbreaking science, EcoHealth Alliance is a global, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting wildlife, environmental and public health from the emergence of disease. Approximately 60 percent of emerging infectious diseases like Ebola, HIV, Zika, SARS, MERS, and West Nile virus have all originated in animals before spilling over to human populations. Using environmental and health data covering the past 60 years, EcoHealth Alliance scientists created the first-ever, global disease hotspots map that identified at-risk regions to determine where research and boots on the ground are needed to help predict and prevent the next pandemic crisis. That work is the foundation of EcoHealth Alliance's rigorous, science-based approach working in more than 30 countries worldwide. EcoHealth Alliance's strength is founded on innovations in research, training, global partnerships, capacity building and policy initiatives.
