Lake Trust Credit Union Team Members Successfully Volunteer Time Throughout Michigan

BRIGHTON, Mich., Oct. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On the recent Columbus Day holiday celebrated on Monday, October 8th, 2018, more than 300 Lake Trust Credit Union team volunteers donated over 1,236 hours of time to make a difference by supporting projects that solve problems throughout Michigan communities. The Michigan-based credit union with branch offices located from lake to lake engaged in a Moved By Good Day. With most financial institutions closed to customers, Lake Trust team members deployed throughout the state to participate in helping 501(c)(3), non-profit organizations in many areas served by the Credit Union.

"It was a fantastic day for our team members and the organizations that welcomed our help," said Lake Trust Credit Union SVP, Culture + Community Engagement Brandalynn Winchester-Middlebrook. "This was our premier Moved By Good Day and I am very proud of the Lake Trust Credit Union team. We volunteered at 22 different sites throughout Michigan, matching members with a passion of giving back to support underserved people in charitable programs. We did a wide variety of activities and everyone worked hard, and our people feel really good about investing their time and talent to worthy causes that improve quality of life for the people of Michigan."

Lake Trust Credit Union offers their team members eight hours of paid time off annually to volunteer for local, 501(c)(3), non-profit organizations. As a financial cooperative, Lake Trust is committed to strengthening the communities it serves, beyond providing traditional banking products and services. On Moved By Good Day, Lake Trust team members were engaged in many projects including delivering 1400 brand new winter coats, purchased by the Lake Trust Foundation, to Michigan students at two worthy schools in the Detroit and Lansing areas in partnership with Operation Warm. Lake Trust volunteers held back tears as some children explained that this was the first winter coat they ever owned.

The Lake Trust team was also hard at work cleaning and performing building maintenance at City Rescue Mission, Ele's Place, and the YMCA in Lansing as well as at Clothing, Inc. in Mt. Pleasant. Volunteers scrubbed community rooms, organized supplies, and even recovered chairs for these deserving organizations. In the Detroit area, Lake Trust team members served food at Volunteers of America and worked in the food pantry at Light House of Oakland County. Despite the hot, humid weather, another team met in Howell to help paint a home with Habitat for Humanity. At Fresh Start Clubhouse in Ann Arbor and LACASA in Howell, team Lake Trust worked outside pulling weeds and landscaping. During clean-up efforts at three community gardens in Lansing, volunteers learned that The Garden Project (through the Greater Lansing Food Bank) feeds over 7,000 people in the area.
