Government of Canada Congratulates Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation on Ground-breaking for New Gas Station


ALEXIS NAKOTA SIOUX NATION, TREATY 6 TERRITORY, AB, Oct. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is proud to support economic development opportunities and growth in Indigenous communities.

Today, the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, congratulated Chief Tony Alexis, the Council, and the community of Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation on breaking ground for their new Petro-Canada gas station.

The new gas station in the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation is the result of a Band initiative to create employment opportunities and provide economic sustainability on their reserve. The Government of Canada is providing $878,520 in funding through the Community Opportunity Readiness Program, which helps Indigenous communities support economic development opportunities. The funds will be used for professional and technical services, as well as for economic infrastructure and capital costs.
