Minister Monsef announces investment to ensure strong and vibrant women's movement
Government of Canada responds to calls from women's movement by launching call for projects to increase capacity of women's and Indigenous organizations
VANCOUVER, Oct. 15, 2018 /CNW/ - Investing in a strong and vibrant women's movement across Canada is essential to the Government's plan for the middle class and those working hard to join it. By funding projects that build the capacity of women's organizations, and Indigenous organizations serving women, we are ensuring that all women and girls, including Indigenous women, ethno-cultural women, LGBTQ2 and gender-non-binary people, non-status/refugee/immigrant women, and women living with a disability, can be financially secure, live free of violence, and participate fully in all aspects of our economy and society.
That's why today, the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Status of Women, invited women's and Indigenous organizations working to advance gender equality to apply for Government of Canada funding to increase their organizational capacity. She made the announcement at the third national meeting of the Gender Equality Network Canada, convened by the Canadian Women's Foundation.
Through Status of Women Canada's latest call for proposals, entitled Capacity-building Fund, organizations will receive funding to increase organizational and sector capacity, allowing women's organizations to participate in activities such as skills development and community engagement. The fund, which stems from the Budget 2018 announcement of $100 million over five years, will help support a viable and sustainable women's movement across Canada.
Organizations can submit an application to the call for proposals by visiting women.gc.ca. The deadline to submit is 11:59 a.m. (Pacific Time), on December 11, 2018.
