CHOP Radiologist Receives Distinguished Service Award from Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound


PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Beverly G. Coleman, MD, FACR, radiologist and Director of Fetal Imaging in the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment (CFDT) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, is the 2018 recipient of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound's (SRU) Distinguished Service Award. Jill E. Langer, MD, Professor of Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and one of Dr. Coleman's mentees, presented her the award during a ceremony at the Society's Annual Meeting, held October 4, 2018 in San Diego.

The SRU established the Distinguished Service Award in 2007. The award honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the society and to the field of radiology. Dr. Coleman was elected to fellowship in the SRU in 1991, advancing to president of the society from 2003-2005.

"She approaches every case with care, providing families with facts and guidance that allow them to make well-informed decisions. This is an incredible and well-deserved honor, and we are proud to work alongside her every day."

Dr. Coleman received her medical degree from Harvard University and completed a residency in radiology, followed by a fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She has more than three decades of experience and has worked with the CFDT at CHOP since it opened in 1995.

Throughout her career, Dr. Coleman has received numerous awards and honors, including the inaugural CHOP Endowed Chair in Fetal Imaging, which will bear her name after retirement. She has presented at more than 260 professional lectures, published more than 120 peer reviewed research publications and co-authored three books. She also held leadership posts in numerous professional organizations and is currently the ultrasound commission chair for the American College of Radiology.
