OPSEU's MPAC members ratify contract with four years of wage increases, no concessions

TORONTO, Oct. 11, 2018 /CNW/ - The 1,400 OPSEU members working at the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) have voted to ratify a contract that features four years of wage increases and not a single concession.

"Each and every MPAC member can take pride in this deal," said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the bargaining team and staff, the members were able to parlay the strength and solidarity they showed during the last round into respectful bargaining in this round.

"On behalf of the entire executive board of OPSEU, congratulations all around."

The four-year agreement provides annual wage increases of 1.9 per cent in each of the first three years and 1.75 per cent in the final year. This deal provides all members with a one-time payment of $750 for health and wellness. It also includes a one-time payment of $250 for all permanent members, to help offset the costs of affiliate and candidacy fees.

"This contract is like a ray of hope for organized workers across the province," said OPSEU First Vice-President / Treasurer Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida. "Despite all the talk of cuts, rollbacks and freezes coming out of the Premier's office, this just goes to show that solidarity can still carry the day."

MPAC bargaining chair David Lynch thanked all the members who participated in the bargaining process by filling out bargaining surveys and voting for bargaining reps.

"The support and encouragement of the members gave us the strength we needed to go to the table with confidence," said Lynch.
