Media Advisory - Photo and Interview Opportunity - Ribbon cutting on new solar installation at The Old Railroad Stop in Hiawatha First Nation community
HIAWATHA, ON, Oct. 11, 2018 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, October 16, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Hiawatha First Nation will be celebrating the completion of a new solar project. The 22 kilowatt (kW) array, which has been completed with support from Bullfrog Power and BASF, is now installed atop the Old Railroad Stop, the community's flagship business and a hub of activity for community and tourists alike. The project will generate carbon-free solar power that will reduce the community's carbon footprint and provides another example of Indigenous leadership in incorporating renewable energy technology into a rural community. In addition to providing environmental benefits, the solar installation is expected to save the Hiawatha First Nation approximately $154,000 in energy costs during the 25-year lifespan of the panels.
