The Donald Berman Foundation gives the Children's $5,000,000 to meet its most urgent needs

A Historic Donation Gives Sick Children Hope

MONTREAL, Oct. 11, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Hope is what helped young Liam get through his 427 days in the Montreal Children's Hospital. An eternity for an 8-year-old boy waiting for a new heart. But a small miracle happened last July: Liam got his transplant. No one can predict the future, and even less so for hospitalized children. At any moment, a young patient might need an unexpected treatment that could be the difference between life and death.

That's why the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation (MCHF) is proud to announce an unprecedented $5,000,000 donation from the Donald Berman Foundation to the Healthy Kids Fund, which helps meet our young patients' most urgent needs. "We're honoured by this partnership with the Donald Berman Foundation. Mr. Berman leaves a strong philanthropic tradition behind him, which will give hope to sick children for generations to come," says Jonathan Amiel, chairman of the MCHF's board of directors.

Committed to various children's causes, the Donald Berman Foundation has given the Children's more than $5.7 million over the past few years. As a gesture of recognition for their generous contribution, the Hospital has renamed its main entrance the Entrée Donald Berman Entrance.

"Donald Berman supported many important causes over the course of his life. He loved nothing more than to put a smile on children's faces and help bring joy to their lives," says David Muller, one of the directors of the Donald Berman Foundation. "Our Foundation is proud to carry on his legacy through our loyal support of the Children's."

The donation is essential to the success of the Children's, which is recognized as a leader in pediatric care. "By supporting the Healthy Kids Fund, the Donald Berman Foundation gives the hospital the flexibility to meet its most urgent needs, when we need it the most. We're incredibly grateful for this tremendous donation," says Martine Alfonso, associate president and executive director of the McGill University Health Centre.

About the Donald Berman Foundation

From humble beginnings, Mr. Berman achieved success due to his great perseverance and determination to see his businesses thrive. From a single souvenir stand at Expo 67, he built a business conglomerate that included rides and games at La Ronde, a plush-toy factory in Old Montreal and a successful import/export company. Demonstrating a great generosity toward those in need, Donald Berman supported many noble causes throughout his life, and children always held a special place in his heart.
