TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2018 /CNW/ - The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) welcomes the Ontario government's new funding for flu beds to help reduce the strain on resources this season, as well as its commitment to move forward with building 6,000 new long-term care beds.

"As I continue my President's Tour visiting communities across Ontario, I'm hearing directly from frontline doctors the challenges that they're facing with the current healthcare system and it's quite alarming," said Dr. Nadia Alam, President of the OMA. "I speak for all doctors when I say that this investment is a positive step to tackle hallway medicine and improve long term care. I truly believe that in order to fix healthcare, we have to take a holistic approach rather than try to solve things in small pieces. I look forward to sitting down with Minister Elliott to discuss how doctors can be playing a critical role in solving these challenges to better serve patients."
