Padres Pedal the Cause Announced as Finalist in Aetna's Voice of Health Contest

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Aetna's Voices of Health contest today announced Padres Pedal the Cause as a finalist in the California region. The Aetna's Voices of Health contest is an annual competition that highlights organizations that bring positive change to their communities.

Padres Pedal the Cause is one of 10 organizations in California nominated for the competition. Entrants are nominated based on their local impact; this year's nominees share a common goal of improving health and wellbeing with their respective missions. Competing for $20,000 for first place, each nominated nonprofit creates a one-minute video that highlights its impact on community health. The nonprofit that receives the most votes on its video will be awarded $20,000 to support its community and address social health issues. Those looking to support Padres Pedal the Cause can do so by voting here. Voting for Aetna's Voices of Health Contest begins on October 1st and runs until November 9th.

"Padres Pedal is honored to be recognized by Aetna as a change agent for social health in San Diego," said Anne Marbarger, Executive Director of Padres Pedal the Cause. "Cancer touches all of us in some way. Being nominated for the Voices of Health contest gives Padres Pedal the Cause a wonderful opportunity to highlight the collaborative cancer research taking place in our community that will accelerate cures and move us, as a community, towards a world without cancer."

Since 2013, Padres Pedal the Cause has raised more than $7.1 million for cancer research in San Diego. In partnering with San Diego's top cancer research institutions, such as Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute and Rady Children's Hospital, the nonprofit aims to ultimately accelerate cures for cancer through collaboration.

The nonprofit's efforts culminate in a one-day event that brings together participants from all over San Diego County to ride a road or stationary bike, walk, run, or participate virtually. The 2018 event will be held on November 17th. Those interested in learning more about Padres Pedal the Cause, participating in the event, or donating to the worthwhile cause can visit www.gopedal.org.
