TIM HORTONS® annual Smile Cookietm campaign raises a record $7.8 million for local charities

Now that's a lot of (cookie) dough raised to support more than 500 charities across Canada

TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - We want to thank our loyal guests, team members and restaurant owners across Canada who helped to raise a record of almost $7.8 million for this year's Smile Cookie campaign. With plenty of smiles to go around, Canadians raised millions of dollars through the delicious act of purchasing a Tim Hortons Smile Cookies for $1 (plus tax) at participating restaurants during the week long campaign. The full $1 from each Smile Cookie is donated by Tim Hortons restaurant owners to local charities, hospitals and community programs from coast-to-coast.

"The Smile Cookie campaign highlights not just the power of a smile, but the amazing generosity of Canadians," says Alex Macedo, President, Tim Hortons. "From the hard working team members who decorate each cookie by hand, to the guests we serve every day, to our charitable partners, we're so thankful that we are able to play a role in raising millions of dollars to make a real difference in communities across the country."

In 1996, the Smile Cookie campaign started as a way to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children's Hospital in Ontario. In the 22 years since this first campaign, the program has grown to become a cross-Canada fundraising event and provides much needed support to over 500 Canadian charities and community programs.

Charities supported by this year's initiative included The Children's Breakfast Clubs in Toronto, the Empty Stocking Fund in Halifax, Children's Wish in Montreal and the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation in Saskatoon.
