Brandon Frere: Employees Come and Go, Just Like Opportunities

PETALUMA, Calif., Sept. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In a business, things come and go. As the business grows, the likelihood of things changing at a faster rate increases. And that includes the departure of employees from the company. Brandon Frere, successful entrepreneur and CEO of several businesses, has seen the coming and going of many employees and says though it may seem difficult at the time, it's a part of being a growing business.

An employee giving their two weeks' notice may or may not catch an employer off guard. Sometimes things in an employee's life happen that they have to deal with, such as needing to take care of a family member or because they're moving, and the separation is on good terms. But it may still be sudden. Or an employee may have shown signs that were telling of an impending notice. Whatever the circumstances, there's now a position that likely has to be filled in a company.

Those two weeks are important for a variety of scenarios. If the departure was known about beforehand, and a new hire was found, those two weeks can be used to train the new employee. Even a week is a decent amount of time to have some solid groundwork laid out by the leaving employee. That time is also important to have them finish up any projects they had been working on and gives other employees time to adjust to spreading themselves to cover the loose ends until someone else fills that position.

While it might seem difficult at the time, as in small businesses employees tend to be closer, it should be seen as a new opportunity for both parties. Along the lines of "as one door closes, another opens", an employee leaving is manageable, and no employee should be seen as completely irreplaceable, though all employees are unique. "Take care of your employees, and they'll take care of you and your business. Employees will come and go, it's going to happen, but making the most of their time and yours is going to be a benefit to the company overall," said Frere.
