Sask Energy sell-off breaks election promise

REGINA, Sept. 21, 2018 /CNW/ - The sell-off of two publicly-owned gas plants is a betrayal of a promise made to the people of Saskatchewan during the last election, says Unifor. 

"How many times can this government break the same promise?" asked Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. "We simply cannot trust Scott Moe. His government's word is worthless."

Dias is referring to a promise made by then-Premier Brad Wall on March 15, 2016 in which he stated in writing that no Crown corporations covered under The Crown Corporations Act would be privatized. This would include the sale announced Thursday of a Coleville gas plant and the publicly-owned 50 per cent stake in a Kisbey gas plant.

"One thing is clear: Scott Moe has no mandate to privatize a single Crown Corporation," said Joie Warnock, Unifor Western Regional Director. "If the Sask Party wants to privatize, they must call an election."
