BARRINGTON, Ill., SAN JOSE, Calif. & LONDON, Sept. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT), has elected Leslie Levy August as OWIT "Woman of the Year." The award will be conferred on October 26th at the OWIT International 18th Annual Conference in Nairobi, Kenya. The international award recognizes outstanding contributions to the status of women within international business and the global trade community. OWIT is non-profit, with a global network of chapters and 2,000+ members, founded in 1989.

Leslie Levy August, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of boomerang carnets and Director of boomerang carnets UK, will receive the award for outstanding contribution to the status of women in international business and trade as the result of her corporate and non-profit efforts. She has served on an OWIT Chapter Board of Directors, Women in International Trade Northern California (WIT-NC), for seven years including three years as President. Additionally, she has impacted women in international trade by modeling the values of collaboration, integrity, responsibility, respect, diversity, empowerment, learning and compassion in her corporate role.

Boomerang carnets and its services (ATA Carnet & Carnet de Passage en Douane) facilitate global trade and tourism by making the promotion of goods and services across borders, easier and less costly. Carnet temporary export/import documents eliminate the payment of import duty and tax in member countries and territories.

Ms. August is an appointed Member of the Northern California District Export Council, a public-private partnership supporting U.S. companies to expand internationally. She has also represented U.S. small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) at the World Customs Organization in Brussels. She is committed to supporting students to find careers in trade and she recently moderated a panel on careers in trade to CSUM students at their annual Women in Maritime Leadership Conference.

Commenting on the award, Ms. August said, "It has been a privilege to serve as Director and COO of a corporation that evens the playing field for SMEs that are expanding globally. And volunteering with OWIT has been an integral part of my professional development and success due to the educational benefits and networking opportunities. To be recognized internationally for being a positive role model for women in international trade is, indeed, an honor."
