3,000 Saint-Laurent Residents Celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Bibliothèque du Boisé!
SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Sept. 19, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - It was under a magnificent late summer sun that nearly 3,000 Saint-Laurent residents came to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Bibliothèque du Boisé on Saturday, September 15. Along with Laurent, the Borough's mascot, residents participated in many activities, throughout the day, at this library decorated with red badges for the occasion.
Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa recalled how heartwarming it was for him to see so many young people there. "This place was specifically dreamed up by Saint-Laurent's elected officials to give young people a chance to feel at home. It is above all a public gathering place with everyone in mind: seniors, adults, families, job seekers and the business community. In the end, it has far exceeded our expectations," pointed out the Mayor. "In fact, since 2013, the Bibliothèque du Boisé has welcomed more than 2 million visitors, making it one of the busiest libraries in the Montréal network."
Welcomed by a giant stilt walker from the Cirque animations 5 étoiles company, the children were first introduced to music with Oscar Salaza Varela, and to percussion instruments in the front lobby with artist Stève Vies. They also had fun drawing or looking for Bibo in the woods of Parc Marcel-Laurin, located next to the library. Bibo is the character created by Yayo, author and illustrator in residence at the Bibliothèque du Boisé. There was food for the mind, but also for the body: popcorn and cotton candy! In the participants, equipped with special glasses, had the opportunity to discover virtual reality, while others were give the chance to follow a reading aloud or tour the museum reserve of the Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec. And lastly, pianist Serge-André Jones treated the crowd to an entertaining performance outside the entrance in order to close the public piano season in Saint-Laurent.
