ROYAL CANIN® celebrates 50 years of innovation

Canadian facility plays a pivotal role in global quality testing

PUSLINCH, ON, Sept. 19, 2018 /CNW/ - ROYAL CANIN® ? a global leader in tailored health and nutrition products for dogs and cats ? is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and recognizing its investments in innovation around the world ? including those made right here in Canada.

Located 70 kilometres from Toronto in Puslinch, Ontario, ROYAL CANIN Canada's state-of-the-art facility manufactures kibble destined for Canada and global markets, including Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Japan and the United States. Opened in 2008, ROYAL CANIN invested more than $73M to open the facility. Since then, the company has doubled its food extrusion and added the Americas Regional Laboratory in 2010. This cutting-edge facility analyzes ingredients and finished product from across North and South America ? one of only three ROYAL CANIN laboratories of its kind around the world.

"We take food safety and traceability very seriously to ensure that every product created in Canada is tested and meets consistent and superior quality standards," says Daryn Brown, GM at ROYAL CANIN Canada. "ROYAL CANIN was built with a commitment to put 'Pets First' and ensure that our products provide optimal health to dogs and cats through each stage of their lives. Our Canadian operations are centered on that vision."

Founded in 1968 by French veterinarian Dr. Jean Cathary, ROYAL CANIN revolutionized the pet food industry by using nutrition to help manage diseases in companion animals. Today, more than 21 million dogs and cats around the world benefit from ROYAL CANIN's tailored approach to nutrition. There are more than 350 formulations available to meet the specific needs and characteristics of dogs and cats ? all while staying true to Dr. Cathary's original vision of food being the first medicine.

Speaking from the company's headquarters in France, ROYAL CANIN President Loïc Moutault recently revealed the vision for the future where ROYAL CANIN can deliver far more than just food. "Looking ahead, we'd like to serve pet professionals in a greater way and use the digital world to disseminate our scientific knowledge more widely," he says. "I think Dr. Cathary would be very proud that we have stayed true to his initial idea."

ROYAL CANIN Canada is a Top 100 Canadian Employer, and globally ROYAL CANIN employs more than 7,000 staff between its 100 facilities around the world. This year, the company announced it will open its 15th production facility in Korea to meet its growing demand in Asia.
