Sohagi Law Group Partner Nicole Gordon To Chair Environmental Law Section of the California Lawyers Association

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Sohagi Law Group Partner Nicole H. Gordon has been installed as the 2018-2019 Chair of the Executive Committee of the Environmental Law Section of the California Lawyers Association (CLA).  Previously under the auspices of the State Bar of California, the Environmental Law Section is now housed within the CLA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the professional advancement of California attorneys and the new home of all the Sections of the State Bar.

This marks the start of Gordon's fifth year on the Executive Committee and thirteenth year in the Environmental Law Section, which boasts over 2500 members.  During her tenure as Chair, Gordon says she wants to, "provide and enhance the services the Section has always provided but to more members, especially younger members, and to promote diversity."  The Section strives to further the knowledge of its members in the fields of law affecting the environment and environmental regulatory law through MCLE programs and social/networking opportunities. Substantive areas and topics include: air, litigation, energy, waste management, natural resources, water, land use, toxics and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Gordon, who has practiced at the Sohagi Law Group for 13 years, advises public agencies on complex environmental and land use matters at the administrative, trial, and appellate levels. She focuses her practice on CEQA, State Planning and Zoning Laws, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the federal and California Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Gordon says that participating in the CLA'S Environmental Law Section, "keeps you at the cutting edge in what's going on in environmental law, interacting with the top attorneys in the state who deal with the issues most relevant to our firm's clients and the state as a whole."  The Section's 27th Annual Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite will be held this year on October 18-21 and promises to continue the tradition of being the largest and most prestigious gathering in California of leaders in environmental, land use, and natural resources law.

"It's a challenging and exciting time for environmental lawyers because the state's environmental regulations are under attack from federal policies," said Gordon, a frequent lecturer on environmental matters at various public and private workshops, including courses and conferences sponsored by the University of California, Los Angeles; the Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP); and the American Planning Association (APA).
