WeShareMD is Bringing Lease-Free Medical Spaces to San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- While the trend of rising healthcare costs continues, one company has created a new business model in healthcare that is aimed at reducing costs for doctors and, ideally, their patients.

On October 1 of this year, the San Diego-based startup, WeShareMD, is expanding its locations from one to four, opening in Temecula, Encinitas and La Jolla's prominent UTC area. By the end of 2018 it is slated to open two additional medical offices in Oceanside and Alvarado. Next year, the company hopes to become a national brand.

Their business model is simple and affordable. They provide high quality medical practice spaces that doctors can rent by the day, week or month, with memberships beginning at $300. This provides doctors with an alternative option for expanding their private practices into new territories or opening their own medical practice. Some doctors are even breaking their current office leases, opting instead for the affordable rates and convenience that WeShareMD offers. "I was able to take my practice from one location to two overnight," says Dr. Anakwenze, a WeShareMD member. Other doctors find it more convenient to use the membership than maintain a full-time medical office. WeShareMD handles much of the business behind a medical practice by providing the staff, medical equipment and overhead costs and maintenance, which many (if not all) doctors are more than happy to outsource.

The company tested its lease-free medical space idea less than a year ago, beginning in San Diego's business district. Due to its rapid success, the team is expanding quickly, and seeking its first round of investment. The company was co-founded by Dr. James Chao and real estate developer, George Scopetta. Their plan was: "handle everything else, so doctors can simply practice medicine." In doing so, they found they could reduce costs for doctors as well.

Fractional office space models like WeShareMD will help decrease the cost of healthcare in America. With frequent news about the rising costs of healthcare, this comes as a breath of fresh air for the medical community, and patients.
