Shears Adkins Rockmore's Ryan Meeks Wins 2018 AIA Colorado Young Architect Award

DENVER, Sept. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Shears Adkins Rockmore (SA+R) is pleased to announce the awarding of team member Ryan Meeks, AIA, as the winner of the 2018 Young Architect Award from the American Institute of Architects' Colorado Chapter. Meeks was announced as the recipient of the honor at the Chapter's Awards Ceremony on Friday evening at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

At 36 years old, Meeks has lived, and practiced architecture in Denver for nearly 11 years, following two years of work in New York. In his time in Denver, Meeks has worked with multiple firms in the region, including Tryba Architects, and RNL (now Stantec), before finding his work home at Shears Adkins Rockmore (SA+R). In this tenure he has played an important design leadership role in major civic projects around the Denver region such as the Denver Botanic Gardens, the new Meow Wolf exhibition currently in development, the new River Mile Master Plan, and the Metro State Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center.

"The work that Ryan is creating, at this early point in his career, is truly inspiring and I know that already, at just 36, he can stand toe-to-toe in a design charrette with even the most seasoned of Architects," said Andy Rockmore, AIA, Principal at Shears Adkins Rockmore (SA+R) and nominator of Meeks for the award. "Perhaps most impressive, though, is the attitude and approach with which Ryan practices."

According to the Awards Jury, "The recipient of this year's Young Architect award demonstrates achievement in design competition, urban design, local advocacy, community service, teaching and participation on interesting projects."

Ryan graduated from the University of Arizona's School of Architecture in 2005. In the immediate years post-graduation, he quickly found himself one of few young architects afloat during a tumultuous recession that led to significant layoffs and dispersion in the profession across the nation. He credits this success to his hard work, his focus on technical proficiency, and a vocal approach to sharing design ideas.

At the ceremony Meeks used the opportunity to thank his supervisors for the opportunities he has received to lead project designs throughout his young years and encouraged more firms to provide young professionals similar chances to lead and contribute to their project teams.
