Media Advisory - Unifor to host major rally to support locked-out workers in Gander

GANDER, NL, Sept. 11, 2018 /CNW/ - Unifor will host a major rally in Gander, Newfoundland, marking the 93rd week of a difficult lockout by D-J Composites.

"This callous lockout has been dragged on for far too long by this union-busting employer and a shamefully complacent provincial government," said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. "If you believe that workers deserve to be treated fairly by their bosses and that governments should support working people - then I'll see you at our rally in Gander on September 26."

"These workers and their families have been dramatically harmed by the actions of their employer and by Dwight Ball's dithering," said Lana Payne, Unifor Atlantic Regional Director. "Unifor demands that the province fix the labour laws that allow this injustice to continue, and that D-J Composites come back to the table and sit down to negotiate a fair deal that respects workers' rights."

Thirty Unifor members have been locked-out since December 2016, after refusing a contract that proposed significant concessions. Since then the employer, D-J Composites has refused to bargain in good faith, and has twice been found guilty of bad-faith bargaining, but faced no consequences.

News media are invited to attend Unifor's solidarity rally to support locked-out workers at D-J Composites.
