AFGE Endorses Colorado's Jared Polis for Governor

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Jared Polis as Colorado's next governor.

The American Federation of Government Employees, the largest union representing federal government workers, has endorsed Jared Polis for election this November as Colorado's next governor.

"As a member of Congress for the past 10 years, Jared has fought for federal employees and all working people time and time again," AFGE District 11 National Vice President Gerald Swanke said.

"Jared Polis has consistently voted against budget resolutions calling for deep cuts to the pay and retirement of federal workers. He has repeatedly opposed efforts to deny health care to tens of millions of Americans by repealing the Affordable Care Act. And he has voted against repealing the Davis-Bacon Act, which ensures anyone working on government-funded construction projects is paid fair wages, benefits, and overtime," Swanke said.

"With public-sector employees across this country facing unprecedented attacks on their workplace rights, it's more important than ever that we support candidates to local, state, and national office who will have our backs," Swanke said. "Jared Polis is the right candidate for Colorado's working families."

About 55,000 federal employees live in Colorado ? caring for veterans, supporting our military, protecting our natural resources, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are more than 100,500 current and retired federal workers in Colorado.

"I am honored to have the support of the AFGE. Our federal employees based in Colorado protect our public lands, our environment, and provide critical services to the people of our state," Jared Polis said. "At a time when our federal workforce is under attack from the Trump administration, I will be a Governor who supports our federal employees in Colorado. They deserve our respect and gratitude for their public service."

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 11 represents more than 56,000 federal employees in Alaska, Colorado, Guam, Idaho, Montana, Okinawa, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
