OTTAWA, Sept. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, we are reminded that everyone can make a contribution to suicide prevention. The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is taking concrete steps to help individuals and communities across Canada prevent suicide by building resources and tools, and mobilizing the uptake of best practices. Our work includes:
User-friendly toolkits that provide online resources for people affected by suicide
Online education to help family physicians and nurses increase their capacity to prevent suicide
A #sharehope wall, an online campaign that spreads messages of hope via social media
Roots of Hope, a national community suicide prevention project
Every year in Canada, an estimated 4,000 people take their lives. Suicide affects all ages and people from all walks of life.
Under the theme Working Together to Prevent Suicide, the MHCC joins other partners to ask everyone to come together and remind each other that help, hope and healing are possible. As a national leader in mental health resource and policy development, the MHCC is fulfilling its commitment to meet the needs of people affected by suicide.
