Statement by Minister Rodriguez for Rosh Hashanah
Today, Jewish communities across Canada and around the world are celebrating the Jewish New Year
OTTAWA, Sept. 9, 2018 /CNW/ - This evening, at sundown, Jewish communities across Canada and around the world will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the start of the Jewish year.
During this celebration, family and friends will gather to pray, exchange best wishes and share a meal. Rosh Hashanah is a time to celebrate and reflect and marks the start of 10 days of repentance, which end with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
This year, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act, Rosh Hashanah gives us the opportunity to learn more about the invaluable contribution the Canadian Jewish community makes in shaping the welcoming, inclusive and prosperous country we know today. The vitality of the Jewish community richly demonstrates the diversity that is the pride and strength of our country.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, I wish all who observe Rosh Hashanah a year filled with happiness and renewal. Shana tova u'metukah!
