Statement by the Taxpayers' Ombudsman on the release of CRA update on her recommendations

OTTAWA, Sept. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - The Taxpayers' Ombudsman, Sherra Profit, today issued the following statement regarding the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) release of an update on actions taken to address the recommendations she made in her last three systemic examination reports.

"I would like to commend the CRA for publicly providing an update on its implementation of my recommendations, further improving services to taxpayers and benefit recipients. The CRA's openness and transparency is welcomed.

This update comes in response to my Office's requests for information from the CRA on its progress on the implementation of the 48 recommendations proposed through 11 systemic examination reports submitted to the Minister of National Revenue since the Office of the Taxpayers' Ombudsman opened in 2008. The CRA's published update on the last three reports is a great start. My Office will analyse these updates carefully and will provide a summary of our assessment on our website at a later date.

I look forward to more updates from the CRA with regards to its progress in implementing my Office's recommendations. It is of utmost importance to me that we continue to monitor the progress and to assess improvements made to service provided to taxpayers and benefit recipients.

I continue to call on taxpayers to call my Office if they encounter service related issues while dealing with the CRA. This information provides my Office with the basis for identifying systemic issues and helps me prepare recommendations for service improvements, such as the ones noted in the most recent update."
