Canadian Paralympic Committee distributes $200,000 in funding towards development of Paralympic sport across Canada


- Paralympic Sport Development Fund supports programs
benefitting the development of athletes on a Paralympic pathway
- 22 organizations received grants of $5K, $10K, or $15K for 2018-19

OTTAWA, Sept. 6, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Paralympic Committee announced today it has disbursed $200,000 in Paralympic Sport Development Fund grants to support the advancement of parasport across the country.

The Paralympic Sport Development Fund supports initiatives and programs that contribute to the development of athletes and coaches on a Paralympic pathway. This means supporting developing athletes and programming at entry-level competition stages and provincial levels. The goal is to grow Paralympic sport throughout Canada with an aim on producing more top athletes in the future.

A total of 22 programs or organizations throughout Canada have received grants for the 2018-19 year, in the amounts of $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000. Funding can cover areas such as recruitment, coaching, equipment, competition and club development, and training camps.

These grants are an important part of building a strong system that will ultimately help athletes to succeed."  

The Paralympic Sport Development Fund is made possible through financial contributions from Sport Canada, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and Paralympic Foundation of Canada.
