Media Advisory: Unifor's 5 year anniversary labour day celebration
TORONTO, Sept. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - On Monday September 3, Unifor will join activists and community members to mark Labour Day with its own special celebration in Toronto.
This Labour Day is also Unifor's 5th Birthday. Unifor members have a lot to celebrate. Over the past five years, as Canada's largest private sector union, Unifor has delivered on its founding principles to be a union known for bold activism, political action, and pushing back at the bargaining table.
"The victories Unifor has achieved over the past five years have been won due to the determination, perseverance, and hard work of our rank and file members," said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President.
Unifor members showed solidarity in pushing back against scab labour used to prolong recent strikes in Godrich and Thunder Bay. We successfully organized more than 20 thousand new workers in the school bus, health care, and hospitality sectors. And we continue to fight for social justice and challenge racism and Islamophobia in our communities.
