KWE! Meet with Indigenous Peoples Event: The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse presents the "Indigenous Peoples: Fact and Fiction" space

QUÉBEC, Aug. 31, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of the event KWE! Meet with Indigenous Peoples, the Interim President of the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse has opened the "Indigenous Peoples: Fact and Fiction" space today in the presence of its partners.

"The Commission is a long-time ally of the First Nations and Inuit," said Philippe-André Tessier, Interim President of the Commission. We wish to contribute to the dialogue and understanding between peoples in Québec. This is all the more important in a context where Aboriginal peoples are still today victim of discrimination, prejudice and human rights violations in Québec and Canada, a situation that is totally unacceptable in 2018."

The Commission takes the opportunity to announce the publication of the third edition of Aboriginal Peoples: Fact and Fiction in collaboration with the Tshakapesh Institute. First published in 2002, this publication, the most in demand of the Commission, presents the rights protected by the Charter and aims to deconstruct prejudices against Aboriginal people. The third edition will be launched officially in the fall of 2018.

The public is invited to take part in the event's free activities and to visit the "Indigenous Peoples: Fact and Fiction" space located in a large dome designed especially for the occasion. On site, visitors will be able to participate in interactive activities, visit a photo exhibition, and interact with Aboriginals to discuss different topics aimed at demystifying the realities of Aboriginal peoples. In addition, an excerpt from the third edition of Aboriginal Peoples: Fact and Fiction will be available only during the event.

Persons or groups interested in this publication may forward a pre-order to the Commission to the following address: [email protected].

The excerpt is also available in French and English on the Commission's website:
