Ontario Nurses' Association Registered Nurses, Health-Care Professionals to Celebrate Labour Day

TORONTO, Aug. 31, 2018 /CNW/ - Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) members will gather to mark Labour Day 2018 in cities across the province this weekend. Front-line registered nurses (RNs) and health-care professionals will march in Labour Day parades and participate in events to show their solidarity.

"For 45 years, ONA and its members have been champions for their patients, and working to improve the working conditions of front-line nurses and health-care professionals so that they can focus on providing high-quality, safe patient care," says ONA President Vicki McKenna, RN.

"Although challenges continue to face our dedicated members, including workplace violence, this union continues to fight for safe staffing levels, safe workplaces and improvements to our health-care system so our members can provide the care our patients need and deserve."

Many ONA members will be participating in Labour Day events across Ontario. In Toronto, ONA will be marching in the city's Labour Day parade on September 3.

"Labour Day is an important opportunity to pause, reflect and appreciate the work that thousands of Ontarians do for the good of others," says McKenna. "It's also a time to remember that unionized workers ? including registered nurses ? care about and advocate for the health and well-being of other workers."

ONA is the union representing more than 65,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
